Clogged gutters can lead to water damage

Now is the dreaded season of raking or blowing leafs. They do actually help keep the roots at the base of a tree insulated. But they do not always end up perfectly around the tree. The one place you do not want them to accumulate is in your gutters.  You should clean your gutters twice a year to ensure the flow of water is being routed away from the house properly. If they clog, the flow of water can cause them to sag and allow water to attack your home. The purpose of gutters is to control the flow of water.  If it does not go into down spouts and continually assaults a wall, eventually it will leak. Same is true if it hits the ground, basements can leak and the wall compromised.  Water weighs about 8 lbs. per gallon and the consistent weight can put a strain on the gutters pulling it way from the house. 1 inch of rain fall can account for 600 gallons of water. That is more than 2 tons of weight on you gutters over time. So the bottom line is, to ensure that your gutter system is working properly.
